The Slush Begins

Welcome to Moral Slush!

It's a little bare at the moment and we're still working out the format, but hopefully we'll be pumping out useless information by the bucketload in no time.....

Plank Walked

Well the plank was walked and we managed to avoid being devoured by the circling sharks. In other words for those who came along last night to the slightly awkward Monday night setting for the USU band comp or those who just have a general interest as to how things went, we managed to progress through to the quarter finals! Hurrah!

Stay tuned for the date we'll be playing the next round, but for now check out our upcoming shows including this saturday at Spectrum it's our first time there and the first time in an age that we've had the pleasure of playing a weekend night.

There'll be a more detailed blog of last nights happenings soon and some live recordings.

Who'll be Manning the bar?

Hello people,

Hope you're all enjoying our much more frequent blog posts of late. We're extremely happy to be stimulating your mind on a more regular basis. Another reminder about our show this Monday at Manning Bar at Sydney Uni. It's FREE entry and we are playing as part of the Sydney Uni Band Comp. All kicks off from six, we'd love your support so if you're a student, stick around after your lecture or if you're lucky enough to have escaped the books, maybe you'd just like to come along and pretend you're an intellectual. HA!

Take note of the new flyers on our page promoting some of our upcoming shows, pencil them in. Below you'll find lyrics to our track "As Good As Graveyard" recently added to Fbi 94.5Fm

Live Video

Many thanks to Chris "The Blitz" "Wattsy" Watts for putting this together, and for having a fish eye lens. If only we could incorporate some kind of skateboard routine into our set we could be the complete package. 30 minutes of set compressed into one 10 minute video, it's like you were at the gig, except for only a 3rd of the time. Like only eating the chocolate part of a tub of neapolitan ice cream and then punting the rest into the roof.

In other news, Manning Bar band comp next monday night from 6:30 pm, if you're stuck at uni late with nothing to do head on down, and even if you're not, come anyway, because if we win we'll use the money to record an ep. Or buy a goat farm on elizabeth drive. We haven't decided yet. Cast your votes now. Then more shows etc. But you'll know about that soon. Or at least be told. Keep Sweet

Tub Punt of the Week....

tub punt of the week..

…awarded to peter watts, of small hours fame. Who, as it happens, are progressing delightfully with their ever more determined plight to enter the realm of reality. The near future vantage points include this coming Tuesday night (May 22nd) at the Sandringham hotel alongside a tasty serving of dirty arrows. Before moving along the road to the next point of order on Monday (May 28th) at Manning Bar, where the small hours intend on delivering four rump steaks with pumpkin soup and a large loaf of sour dough, as they (that is we) aim at maintaining a position in the assumed next stage of the Sydney University Band Comp.

In new news, we have also endeavoured to flog ourselves across June with shows now announced supporting Cloud Control at Spectrum on June 2nd and also playing with Pang as they launch their EP on the THIRTEENTH?? at the Hopetoun Hotel.

In the upcoming show some cult classics may be revisited. Also the unveiling of a new track due for road testing.. (a proper unveiling).. so be sure to give it a proper welcome.

we are also available as party entertainers. punting not only vanilla but also chocolate, strawberry, low fat and home brand tubs.

This tasty sandwich posted by the small hours.

Band Comp + More = Blog Post

Believe it or not, but we forked out the $50 needed to enter ourselves in the University of Sydney Band Comp. With three quarters of us attending there, and us being band, we figured it would be appropriate. Our first heat takes place at Manning Bar on May 28 (Monday, Week 12) and it would be great if everyone could come along. First band starts at 6.30 and the order is a mystery so make sure you get there early. 10% of our score actually comes from audience response so don't forget to bring your whistles and scantily clad women.

For all you Sydney Uni people out there, you have no excuse not to come. Just hang around after your last class. We have an ACCESS card between us and as far we're concerned, that means 30 cent savings for everyone. For the outsiders, we will understand if you don't come, but we'll love you if you do. In fact, if you make the effort, just for us, let us know and we will each give you a high 5. Wait, make that 10! With all these incentives and more, you'd be crazy to miss out.

Keeping with the band comp theme, we'll also be playing a show with last year's deserving winners, Cloud Control, at Spectrum on June 2nd (yes, a Saturday for once!). After that, we'll be heading into hibernation. The rest of June will be spent rehearsing, writing and recording in preparation for our Seabellies mini-tour in July. If you haven't seen these guys yet, you really should because they are quite special indeed. Bird Automatic are also coming along for the ride and it promises to be an excellent time. Stay tuned for more info on this.

If you can't wait until the 28th to see us, we're also playing at the Sandringham Hotel on Tuesday May 22nd. It's a nice intimate venue and we'd love for you to come along.

Last but not least, word on the street is that we have a brand new song which we plan on unleashing at Manning. If you heard us play it at Ruby Rabbit, that doesn't count because this time all band members actually know what they're playing. It's yet another reason for you to come along.

SEE YOU SOON!!!

The Small Hours

The Small Hours on fbi

Imagine life without fbi. Actually don't, that's a very scary thought. These guys are quite literally the last hope for radio (Triple J has been overrun by the Black Parade). They're the only station that consitently plays good music and not just the stuff that gets shoved down our throats by record labels. If you haven't got on board, nows the time (94.5 or online).

Another great thing about fbi is that they give local Sydney bands a chance. That's where we come in. Arks was given a fair amount of air time and we couldn't be happier. Hopefully Graveyard will get a spin or two in the coming weeks so look out for it. Recently we were invited in for an interview on the Sydney music show, The Bridge, with Lee Tran Lam. A fun time was had, useless banter was made and a makeshift version of Arks was performed. If anyone's interested, we may see if we get a copy of the whole interview for download. In the meantime, here's that version of Arks. Thanks Lee and fbi for having us!

Considering that the keyboard parts were written while we were waiting in the foyer and the backing vocals were unleashed from opposite corners of the room, it didn't turn out too bad.

Graveyard Demo

As Good As Graveyard

This is our latest demo which we'll shoving in your faces. It was recorded at Raby Studios (aka Craig's garage) so don't expect any miracles. The important thing is that it's out there for the world to enjoy! We're slowly learning that for people to like us, we actually need to give them something to listen to (or is it the other way round?). With this in mind, expect to see many more demos come your way very soon.

UPDATE: Here's some lyrics for your consumption...

It's a leaf in my story,
And I wanna go and find out.
Is Patrice as good as graveyard?
There is no doubt.

Turn on the machine,
And it'll show you a scene of my life.
Is Zenith as good as graveyard?
There is no doubt

By me
By me

The vital signs gone away
The vital signs gone
The creek is calling out your name
The creek is calling

I see people walking round,
They walk on all fours, might as well be underground.
And i'm not just saying this,
They might as well be, making me.

By me
By me

The vital signs gone away
The vital signs gone
The creek is calling out your name
The creek is calling

Allison - Demo

Allison (Old Version)

Here's a copy of Allison (previously known as 'The New Song') for those who are desperate for something to listen to. It's already been out dated (ie IMPROVED), so don't get too attatched. We'll put up the current version when it sees the light of day
